NTABID
I'm wondering if anyone has a cheap and cheerful fix for the problem of drooping barn doors (patt 123). There's insufficient friction at the hinges - rivetted. I've tried compressing the rivets in the jaws of a vice, but not satisfactory. Other than drilling out the rivets or chucking and replacing the barn doors (too costly for us), has anyone any ideas, please?

ianknight
I normally use a pair of 'Mole' grips on individual rivets but yours might have reached the stage where the metal under the rivet is beginning to wear. It might be time to bite the bullet and drill them out - try fitting a washer under the head of the rivet (or it's foot) to add some extra grip though. alistermorton
Various methods - tapping around the rivets and friction area with a small hammer can work, but longer term drilling them out and replacing with nuts, screws and washers is probably more effective. Don Allen
I drill the rivets out and use 3mm screws and nylock nuts so I can set the friction.
top-cat
Using nylon or rubber washers as opposed to steel ones can also aid friction. Of course just make sure it can deal with the heat.
