Lamplighter
Has anyone used a Behringer ADA8200 for real?. My interest is in the input gain adjustment compared with the older ADA8000. The adjustment range on the older unit is really poor, with about 10dB adjustment spread over about 60% of the rotation and the remainder squashed into the 20% at each end. It is not consistant from channel to channel either. The blurb available proclaiming the advantages of the new unit is rather vague on these, rather vital, points. Has Behringer addressed this?Brian
Electrolytic
I imagine they have shoe horned an adaption of the preamps found in the X32 into this industry main stay product. If that is the case then they will be significantly improved.
Alec
Review from Sound On Sound "On a practical level, it's good to see that the gain-versus-rotation of the input gain control is a little more linear across the whole control range, with less 'bunching'." Will that do?
Lamplighter
Thanks AlecThat helps, though I was hoping for someone who had used one "for real" Brian
jamesperrett
Are you saying Hugh isn't real? :) He can be regularly found on the Sound On Sound forum if you want any more info.
Alec
That helps, though I was hoping for someone who had used one "for real" I guess you have to choose how well you believe the reviewer but, as James points out, Hugh is no anonymous person. And specific comment is made on the improvement in linearity of the gain control - which would imply to me a definite improvement. Anything above that is likely to be subjective, and you'd need to test for yourself.
jamesperrett
There is also a thread on the SOS forum where Hugh mentions that he compared the review unit directly with an ADA8000 and found a distinct improvement in preamp sound quality.
