danlightingman210
Hi, I have just bought a second hand yamaha P2500s amp and upon startup there is a quick buzzing sound which lasts a couple of seconds then stops.is this just the power going to the amp or the fan have a quick spin round when it starts up? It works fine so doesn't seem to be any issues! Cheers
paulears
I used to have one that when powered up made a quick low frequency sort of "hrrrumph" sound. It was a loose lamination in the transformer, and never seemed to cause any issues - apart from the odd noise on power up.
danlightingman210
That's the sort of sound I'm hearing! If it never caused you any problems I'll probably just leave it as it is, thanks!
jamesperrett
Probably the power transformer with a slightly loose lamination trying to supply a large charging current to the smoothing capacitors. This is pretty common although better amps may have some kind of soft start system to prevent these high currents as they could shorten the live of some components.
