Ryster
I've seen a fair few cue light systems, but the last couple of shows that toured with cue lights have had amber lights on the prompt desk. On the cue light itself it just has the regular "flashing red" (standby) "solid red" (acknowledge) and "green" (go), so what's the purpose of the amber light at the prompt desk? What does it signify? J Pearce
The amber buttons on the prompt desk might have been a preset selectors, handy for sending go to several departments at exactly the same time. See the GDS CueSystem for an example.
Harry McBeal
If there's a button on the cue light outstation it's likely that the amber light will signify that the standby has been acknowledged. Harry
danburns
Usually, as Jon has said the amber buttons are to preset a group of cue lights ready to standby or go at once. When triggered, they would flash red until acknowledged (then go static red)
Showbitz
On most of the prompt desks I have come across you have the 3 colours, Red (& Flashing Red), Amber and Green. Red and Green work as you would expect, the amber as Jon and Dan have said are presets. On the desk I use most there are 12 Red / Standby switches and 13 Go switches, the last of which is offset from the rest. - The Reds are 2 way, switch down for general use, however if you push the switch up instead then it will preset the channel, the amber light will come on too and the only way to give the GO is using the 13th switch which will send Green to all the preset switches. Bit of a waffle but I hope that makes sense.
