Men & Women in Stage Management

From my time in theatre (which is not bang up to date, exactly, it's been a while):

Stage managers: mostly male

DSMs: mostly female

ASMs: about equal

 

From my time in live entertainment (other than theatre):

Stage managers: mostly male

DSMs: er... there aren't any, as such

ASMs: er... nope, not many of those either

 

Which box on your poll should I tick for that? ;)

From my time working in theatre, I'd say across all levels of stage management there are moderately more women than men. But I wouldn't use the phrase 'mostly women'.

Presumably you will be comparing these "perceived" data against actual data (e.g. looking at staffing lists on websites, in programmes etc.)?

AS with the WE show I currently work on, mostly women. Although the few men make it to CSM a lot quicker, and onto PM quicker. That said the ones that make it to PM are usually not very good at it.
