Another busy year for the Blue Room

The Blue Room technical forum has just passed 2 years of age and has just received its 50,000th post. Launched in January 2003, the forum is a free independent discussion forum, operated on a not-for-profit basis, aiming to help members from all areas of the industry communicate with and advise others. New innovations for the coming year include a database of stolen equipment and a new forum for discussing Electrical and Power issues. Due to its popularity, the Blue Room has just moved to a new higher-bandwidth server to keep up with the increasing demand.

It was always the intention for the Blue Room to be run for the membership, not profit, with merchandise and donations from industry being used to defray the running costs. The unexpected popularity of the forum has enabled a surplus of over £200 to be donated to Light Relief, the Blue Rooms selected industry charity.

The last 2 years have seen the Blue Room move from strength to strength. Membership has recently passed the 1,500 mark, with members from every sector of the industry and an increasing number of international members. The Company Reps scheme is very popular, with representatives from many major manufacturers and suppliers fielding queries about their products and services from the membership. The site also benefits from its close association with the latest incarnation of Pier’s Sheppard’s excellent links website, Stagelink.

Once a year, the Blue Room offers awards to members under categories such as 'Most Helpful Member' and 'Most Helpful Company Rep'. This year these awards were kindly supported by Wavicle and Zero88 Lighting. These awards were presented at the Blue Rooms Bi-Annual meeting, which was held in conjuction with the PSA and UKCMA.

Overall, the Blue Room continues to facilitate and encourage communication between members of the Production profession, and always welcomes new members.
