paul bentley
Please could someone help me. I need to know what markings are required on the end of ropes and lines used fir rescue purposes in the fire and rescue service under loler and where I can find this and also the life span of the ropes. Is it 5 years. Thanks
Chris Higgs
LOLER requires all lifting equipment to be uniquely identifiable.Rescue lines carry loads (people are loads under LOLER) and are therefore lifting equipment. Lifespan of a (any) rescue line is maybe one use. (May be just one practice session).Certainly any severe shock loading may have a weakening effect, cuts and abrasion may be present. A competent person should examine it in such circumstances. Unused, if kept stored out of sunlight, loosely coiled, a polyester rope is often quoted as having a 5 year life.Check the manufacturer's instructions supplied with the rope (that's why they have to provide them...)
