LOLER requires all lifting equipment to be uniquely identifiable.

Rescue lines carry loads (people are loads under LOLER) and are therefore lifting equipment.

 

Lifespan of a (any) rescue line is maybe one use. (May be just one practice session).

Certainly any severe shock loading may have a weakening effect, cuts and abrasion may be present.

A competent person should examine it in such circumstances.

 

Unused, if kept stored out of sunlight, loosely coiled, a polyester rope is often quoted as having a 5 year life.

Check the manufacturer's instructions supplied with the rope (that's why they have to provide them...)
