Ashley R Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hi BR Just a quick question that has been bugging me. (I don't own any of these fixtures, just merely curious) Is it possible to replace the plasma light source in the Robe Plasma spot's? As in the manual there is no mention of this procedure? Also seems like it's virtually impossible to purchase replacement lamps, after a quick google? Also are there any other fixtures out there in this industry that utilize a Plasma light source, the Robe is the only one I can think of, everything else is discharge lamp based? Thanks Ash
JDLX Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Well I do know that Robe discontinued the Plasma range last year.. I guess that doesn't bode well for replacement lamps - I believe you can change them though.
Ashley R Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Yes I noticed that as well, so It seems a plasma source is no longer a viable light source for the entertainment industry, and LED is the way to go.
JDLX Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 It would seem so. Having seen the plasma 300s in the flesh I was never massively impressed by them, and the standard 300s with the msd lamps are far brighter. And now the dlx and dls are brighter still and are led. I'd be surprised if phillips stop manufacturing the lamps though.
Adam L F Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 The reasoning for discontinuing the range was due to the lamp manufacturer changing the style, size and type of lamp used, and Robe just couldn't keep up! I haven't seen any replacement lamps around.
bigclive Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 This is good in a way. Having a high power RF generator in a plastic light was a bad idea. I don't think the manufacturers really thought through the implications of a technician removing the waveguide to work on the light and forgetting to put it back.
gyro_gearloose Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 How many hours were the plasma sources supposed to last? I thought there were European laws regarding spare parts availability after something was manufactured? If you can't find a replacement plasma source, I could probably convert them to LED for you :)
Ashley R Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 From what I could find, the lamps lasted for 10,000 hours.
