BNC/Coax Video

The actual specs between 'HD' Digital and Analogue cable that fit BNC connectors are surprisingly similar - the attenuation is slightly less in the HD version, as is the capacitance on the same length, and on the HD cable the velocity of propagation is higher - 66% v 83% in the two versions of Belden I looked at. The dielectric is also foam in the HD version compared with polyethylene in the SD version. I suppose if one is buying new cable for HD-SDI connects, then buying the HD labelled version gives an element of security.

Most BNC will pass Hd-SDI. How far depends on the cable quality.

We've had HDSDI do 30m on VDC RG56 when we've been in a pickle. We also have canford SDVF which used to pass HDSDI over 100m lengths. Then it got driven over and doesn't do it now (were assuming it's deformed the cable so it no longer supports the data rates without the signal getting to mushed by the time it reaches the end)... We also have Extron RH6 'High Resolution' stuff that easily does 100m, but due to being solid core isn't as nice to handle.

All our cables are terminated on 75Ohm BNC with the SDVF and Extron RG6 on specific HD BNC's.
