Start here: http://www.blue-room.org.uk/wiki/Digital_Multiplex In short DMX is a control signal. You give each device an address and control it from a controller. Its all well and good explaining DMX, but we are disregarding the fact that you made need some dimmers, thus making the explaination of how you would use them with DMX a little bit different.
