sleepytom
Some of the Sanyo projector range have turned up on Panasonic's website. The XP series is absent though, and I wondered if anyone had any further information regarding the future status of these machines, will panasonic be continuing them? or bringing out new models which use the same lens format? Or is one of the longest running and most popular AV projector lines now obsolete? Its a bit of a worry as we have a significant investment in lenses for these projectors. productionpeople
I don't think Panasonic will bring back the XP projectors, however Christie and Eiki still have XP projectors in their range, if they bring out future models to support the lenses who knows. AHYoung
The XP is dead and has been for ages. The 1.3" lcd platform remains with the 7k Hd Hf7000 or christie/ Eiki rebadge. Ive got one and its great, much like a hd 16/9 xp200 however even though the old xp lenses fit, this unit takes higher quality "HD" lenses which cost a fair bit more, so in effect if your old lens stock is redundant. Its the same situation with the panasonic single chip units a few years back when they upgraded all the lenses and everyone had to reinvest in the more expensive but better units. Its not panasonic not bringing back the units, the xp100/200 were end of life and showing their age, and the 7k LCD unit competes directly against panasonics 7k dlp unit so its gone. Its a shame, but as soon as sanyo brought out the xm range, the xp was dead as it did more for much less. All these units are available from panasonic and pixels and lumens per pound, you wont beat them. As panasonic make the christie units, its unlikely you will see new Xp units in the christie range as the panasonic r&d will be focused on their own rather than compeditors models. personally im looking at the panasonic dlp units as the replacement for our xp series and just biting the bullet and buying all the lenses, but at least the lenses are readily available to sub hire. if I ever get time ill shoot out a xp, a lcd 7k and a panasonic dlp 7k ...
