cedd
Similar to Pritch, I used to work (in my teens) as a lifeguard. Again, unblemished record, indeed I seemed to be quite well liked and reasonably good at what I did (well, nobody drowned...). My reference came from the council's HR office (who'd of course never met me) saying they saw no reason not to employ me, and confirming my dates of employment. I was really dissapointed when it arrived, but it seems quite a common thing. When we've interviewed for new staff, quite a lot have come from the same big organisation, with a central HR department. They all said exactly the same thing. Government agencies are also pretty similar. A colleague who used to work for one got pretty much a one-liner, just like my council one. djw1981
The bit for you to shine is in a competency based application process when asked for evidence that you did X to get an old styel reference from a boss you liked?
