KevinE
Someone's given me a nearly new Sony Broadcast DVCAM digital video recorder. Does anyone use them these days? I can't imagine me putting it to any use. Isn't everything 'hard drive' ?

paulears
They're rather nice - I've got the older one without display. If you want to sell it, they still fetch sensible money. The real killer is service - they're very expensive to repair when head wear begins to rear it's head. I use mine to get tape material DV and DVCAM into my edit system - and many of us with tape libraries still need to replay our old material. SD is still in use, not everyone has shifted to HD yet - so at the moment, I'd certainly hang onto it, because people will still need them, especially when their existing ones wear out. I've got two machines I can use for this purpose, just so when one dies, I can carry on working. A VERY expensive machine when new. They will only replay DV tapes in SP mode - they cannot playback DV that somebody recorded at LP - if that's important.
