clean a lion suit

This is a VERY bad idea, but I know some people who had to wear one in what sounds like the same condition in a holiday centre, and it was horrible. Their solution was to wait until all the guests had gone to bed, and then take it in the swimming pool, and let the chlorine get to work. Of course, they tried it empty and it floated, so it got sillier and they tried actually swimming in it - but it worked. Downside was it took four people to carry it to the boiler room, where it remained hidden for three days until it dried out - however, the smell went and was replaced by just a sort of musty smell - but heaps better than the old BO sweaty smell. Some of the costume on the outside shrunk a bit and a couple of glue joints were obviously water soluble, but the foam glue held up fine.

So not to be advised, but it worked!

Upstage Drycleaners might be worth a try - they specialize in "non standard" items and are very good and very helpful. They are not exactly local to you, but they certainly used to collect and deliver from anywhere, as they cleaned costumes for lots of the big tours.

I don't suppose it would be cheap, but possibly less costly than having a new suit made

If you have a good local drycleaners they may be prepared to clean it for you, it depends a lot on how big it is and what it is made of.

If it is smelly rather than dirty you could try cheep vodka. Either spray the suit with it or drink it to forget the pong.
