johnandsyl Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Four 4ft. square trucks ,2' high with steps built in, Various dancing girls, singers and pieces of scenery, A producer who wants them every whichwhere, A raked stage. Has anyone out there a breaking system which is quick, quiet. reasonably priced, and guaranteed to keep the whole lot out of the orchestra pit .Thanks in advance
robloxley Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 The issue is surely preventing them running away downstage into the orchestra pit while being moved around ans say someone trip/lets go etc...
Martin Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Flints sell various different brakes. You could also try using a combination of fixed and swivel wheels (with brakes). Perhaps a swivel in each corner and two fixed in the middle of the upstage & downstage edge. This would let you move it left - right and rotate on the spot, making it less likely to be drawn to the pit when moving. Of course this wouldn't let you move it up/down stage without rotating the whole truck.
LeeStoddart Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Rather than try and add breaks you could consider the approach where the structure sits down on the stage and the wheels are "pushed down" by a lever at the back of the truck only when it needs to be moved. Is that the sort of approach robloxley was assuming?

Ellis Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Another idea is to have 'tracks' (narrow channels) running across the stage. The trucks have bolts that protrude into the tracks (i.e. if they were not in the tracks, the wheels would not touch the floor!), guiding the truck and keeping it on the straight and narrow.
