Rob
We need a reasonably chunky PA for our summer ball which is going to be held in a Marquee 30mtrs x 25mtrs. We are looking at two stacks of D&B C7's, comprising a Top cabinet and two Subs driven by a P1200A amp. http://www.soundfoundation.com/images/speakers/c7stack.jpg Were planning on locating them on each side of the stage, which will be centred along one wall, and about 7mtrs wide. What do people think the coverage and power will be like over this area? We have been advised that D&B's perform at about twice their rated output. We need the kit for one day, and have been quoted £80 per stack. Does this seem reasonable??
gareth
What are the C7's rated at? I had a d&b sound system when I was chief LX at Cambridge Arts - it was absolutely wonderful, one of the best small theatre systems I've ever heard. 30m x 25m is a very big space - how many punters are you expecting to be in there? As a very, very, very rough rule of thumb, allow 10 watts per person. (e.g. If your expected attendance is 1000, of which you can expect maybe 80% to be in the marquee at any one time - the rest might be in the bar, other rooms, etc. - you'd need something around the 8kw mark, but be aware that this is NOT a scientific method of working out the power required, it's very much a rough guide.) Is the system for use by bands? Or a disco? Or what?
Peter Russell
Rob, The d&b kit really is unbelievably loud, and efficient. We have a very large hire stock of d&b here at Blitz and very rarely use anything else. Two C7 stacks should work well for your gig although 2 stacks of 6 cabs per side (2 tops and 4 subs) would shake your granny's fillings out.If that is the effect that you are going for and budget allows.2 F2's and 2 B2's per side would make a really well balanced stack that would be a bit beefier, I once managed to crack the supporting wall of a stage using this configuration once (Breaking solid objects with sound is a part time hobby!!!! ) Hope this is of some help, Peter
robloxley
Also, what is the maximum permissable sound level outside the tent, according to your licence, as this may put something of a limit on shaking grannies Getting a decently lined marquee can help cut down on noise spill, as well as not having too many openings. Rob
For a bit more info, we're looking at about 400 people, with the system handling a Rock band, a pop band, and various DJ's. What do people think of £80 per stack including delivery, set-up and de-rig for the day?? EDIT 12/05: Hastily made stupid comment re noise levels corrected
timmath
Rob >We're in the middle of a park, so it's not such an issue! If its the RBC summer ball your thinking of then you may be in the middle of a park, but it still has residents on three sides and a school on the one side. there have been complaints in previous years from residents and the school... Don't forget if the police get too many complaints that have the power to close you down and confiscate you equipment. Yes, £80 per stack is a good price (whose it from?) for an top notch system - although if you got the dosh add a B2 each side! regards tim
gareth
£80/stack, i.e. £160 for the system, including transport and a technician to set it up and take it down?! Where on earth can you get a price like that? That's not even a day's pay for most audio engineers, let alone the cost of the system hire and the transport ...
