AndyL
just in from Ofcom (www.ofcom.org.uk): "The Government has this week given the go-ahead to begin making grants to the Programme Making and Special Events (PMSE) sector to support its migration from channel 69 to channel 38. On 28 July 2010, the Government announced that it will be providing a contribution towards the cost of new equipment. Following this, on 23 September a funding scheme was launched, which resulted in more than 66% of eligible licensees registering claims for a contribution to the cost of modifying or purchasing equipment. Having been provided with a report on the registration phase, the Government has this week given the green-light to begin making payments to registered claimants. Those claimants who have not yet provided proof of ownership details to the scheme administrators Equiniti should now do so as soon as is possible. Once the proof of ownership stage is completed claimants will be asked to surrender equipment in-line with the surrender dates they picked during the registration phase; however should they wish to change to a later date they can do so by contacting Equiniiti, the scheme administrator." boswell
66% of eligible licensees registering claims Only 66% have claimed, the others must either have too much cash or have their head in the sand. It's not going to cost HMG much cash in compo to clear the way for the big sell off.

Solstace
Or maybe some companies don't have the budget to replace what the scheme only partially pays for...
boswell
But as you can't use them if you keep them, you may as well surrender them and take the cash. You are not forced to replace them
Solstace
Unless of course you're not in a busy area and your kit can deal with Ch70, which I understand will continue to be available after Ch69 departs this mortal coil, and should remain for the lifetime of the particular locations and kit I'm thinking of... J Pearce
There's one license holding venue I used to be involved with doing just that. They haven't 45% of the new replacement cost, so they're switching their 5 units to Ch70 with one channel overlapping between the main space and the side room (on the basis that its very rare that they need 3ch in the main room AND 2 in the side room), with an old VHF unit being resurrected as a get-out-of-jail on the occasions that they do.
