Hammymj
Hi all, I was wondering if anybody can tell me what they use the solo to master button for? I have only ever seen it on larger sound desks and cannot think of a practical use for it (other than scaring everybody in the room)! Your suggestions would be much appreciated. James
On a recording or broadcast desk where the masters are not the outputs to tape or network but the local monitor speakers. We use a number (~50) of small Yamaha 03D desks where they are set up in exactly that way.
paulears
first thing I do on a strange desk is tape a cover over danger buttons like this - hitting them during the show is somewaht embarassing.
James
Careful though - I know you wouldn't do it Paul but I have seen people apply the same principle to motorised faders. Ugh, they are a pain to replace when they burn out. and seing motorised faders taped down on doing it on a brand new desk is heart wrenching. slim_mcslim
it is often known as the P45 button...all the times I have seen them the button is well out of the way, and on some desks has a little plastic cover over it... I have used it for sound checking but that is all.
Hammymj
I haven't heard it called the P45 button before but I like the name! It wasn't that I actually used it mid performance because I knew what it did. I can see how you could use it in a sound check but it isn't really necessary; I was hoping there was some magical use that I just hadn't heard of. Maybe it's just there to catch out people who like to fiddle!?! Martin
