Barcode scanners for PAT testers

Hello Blue-Roomers.

I'm looking to get a barcode scanner for our Seaward PAT1000s. The Seaward site wants me to pay £210 for one, http://www.seaward.co.uk/products/ccd_barcode_scanner.asp but I am wondering if any standard CCD barcode scanner will work - like this one http://www.ers-online.co.uk/o496/1000r-cip...-barcode-reader. The tester has a RS 232 serial port for connecting a scanner.

Does anyone have experience of using a standard unit with their PAT tester?

Many thanks

Katy

I bought this on ebay for £50 buy it now, changed the plug, and it works fine with our Seaward Supernova!

The main thing with the Heron model is to get the D130 model, which can be set to serial, usb, etc etc. The unit I bought only came with an rj-45 plug on the end, but ten minutes and one 9-pin dsub plug later I was scanning away merrily!

Type in "datalogic heron d130" on ebay search, and you'll get quite a few pop up for £49.95 which should work with my little modification.

Edited to add: Just looked at you link, and although I also found a few cheap ones around, I got the Heron, as our Tourist Information booth had one that I could try before buying one. Others may work, but it would be a case of buying and trying.

I believe we have a cheap RS one - the main issue is usually a power adaptor - shall look it up tomorrow...

Don't know if it's the same on the OP's tester, but ours outputs 5V on pin 9 of the rs232 port- perfect for the scanner I recommended!
