None. With a parcan it's all in the lamp.

 

The only differences are:

 

Gel life: Gel will not last as long in a shortnosed parcan as it's closer to the lamp, so runs hotter and burns out quicker.

 

Beam angle: A shortnosed can will give greater 'spill' with narrower beam angle lamps, and will permit wider beam angles to be used.

 

You can normally fly floorcans, the only thing to watch out for is the mounting as I've seen some that don't have the facility to fit a hookclamp.

 

As to 'equally effective' - depends what you mean by that. Obviously the effect is different because the light is coming from above rather than below.

They are just as bright no matter what direction you point them in though.
