Scroller cable

But surely the Strands don't put 240V AC down a 4 pin XLR?

Nope thank heavens! It uses a (from memory) 9 pin cable which has two round connectors at the end. The connectors are about the same size as a 1p or 5p coin and then use the socapex 'style' connector to join them together. Coming to think of it I seem to remember not all 9 of the pins being used - perhaps live, neutral, earth, data +, data -.

I could certainly find out for sure if anyone's interested.

(Incidentally this cable was a bugger to coil or run out straight/flat if we're arguing about cables <_<)

Strand ones? Hmm, that must have been before the Strand ColorCalls

I believe so Gareth. These ones are huge (no understatement!) and are already bolted to the front of a Par 64. The scroller wraps round the side of the Par, as you may be able to see in the picture below, which is where the non used scrolls lives before travelling across the front.

They could be addressed up to 99 as they had 2 radial switches on the side, only for units and one for tens. I don't think they were DMX by nature (so I've used them with a convertor), as I've seen them used once with a small version of the Taskmaster console - http://www.strandarchive.co.uk/control/taskmaster.html - on the little controller you selected which ones you wanted to control, and then a button from 1-16 for the frame.

I do vaguely recall once using some scrollers which needed a 240v power input separate to the data input - I think they might have been some rather old Lightpaint ones, but I'm not sure.

Does this rather rubbishy picture remind you at all. Sorry it's not clearer but it's the only one I've got of this ye olde Strand scroller.

Oh this one of the Panscan II on the Strand Archive site looks like the same scroller to me - but this one uses 24vDC so it could be a slightly different version. The wrap round sides look a bit thinner so it could possibly be a Mk2 version?
