Power Point playback

Hi Folks

Just looking for some advice on something, does anyone know of a power point playback unit, a bit like a network media hard drive kind of thing? One of our shows has multiple screens on the set, what we are looking for is a stand alone unit that can be connected to each screen and store and playback all media (generally PPT), also so we can reload media at any point and re edit it. The screens rarely show the same PPT they all run independently of each other.

At the moment we use a laptop direct to each screen, this is fine but it means we have to take out 5 or 6 laptops every time we do the show. I have also looked at re saving the PPT's into other formats but the problem comes when either you want to re edit or you are dealing with multiple slide loops. And also it means someone has to sit re saving the PPT's into other formats which we don't really want to have to worry about.

In an ideal world the unit would have a VGA output, networkable, has a large hard drive, and plays back power point. any ideas?

Hope this makes sense!

If you change the filename extension from .ppt to .pps (or .pptx to .ppsx), the PowerPoint will become a self-running show as soon as the file is launched. You could then put a shortcut to the file in the Startup folder on your Start menu to have the show start every time the PC boots up - you shouldn't then need a local screen, kb or mouse. Add in a VNC server on each machine & network them up and you could control them all remotely from a VNC client on one PC.

Hope this helps
