wire rope diameter vs. SWL

Hi, my first post here.

Can you please help me to sort out confusion?

What kind of wire rope are you using for 1t and 2t steels in UK, because my local rigging shop stocks wires 10mm diameter with 900kg SWL and 12,5mm diameter with 1350kg SWL. If I want a 2t steel, on offer is 14mm 1800kg SWL or 16mm 2400kg SWL.

Construction of wires is 6x19 according to DIN3068. Should I ask for different wire construction?

Also what is the common way to end chain clutch - masterlink, shackle or hook?

And my last question: one of the biggest companies here use the ratchet straps as secondaries. I've never seen it anywhere else. Is it bad practice or you can get away with it?

Thanks for answers and suggestions.

For a steel wire rope question contact Rope Assemblies ( a quick google search will find them) they are excellent and really know their stuff when it comes to this area of the market. They will be able to advise you further.

Clutch chains can terminate in either a hook or an Oring.

Ratchet straps are NOT a method for lifting and definately should never be used as secondaries. Ratchet straps are for tieing loads down not holding them up.
