parky58
I have a PA hire business and offer a small lighting rig for use at events. It presently comprises of 12 par 64 cans, 3 pulsar dimmer packs which are controlled via a DMX 512 interface, and a less than helpful behringer eurolight LC2412. It has been used twice in the last 6 months and on both occasions I have been unable to re-aquaint myself with the controls. It seems to start up in a mode best known to itself and needs a lot of messing about to get it into a simple mode with crossfades, flash buttons and one or two scenes. I am therefore looking for a replacement for the desk which must be inexpensive, 12 to 24 channel, lightweight and user friendly. Can any of you lighting guys offer sugggestions at what I should be looking at? Thanks, Steve
timsabre
I think "inexpensive" and "user friendly" are probably incompatible...What do you call "inexpensive" - if you mean "similar price to the Behringer" then in my opinion, everything at that price point has its own weirdnesses in operation. parky58
In all reality I would be happy spending £300 to £500, probably second hand.
pritch
When you say PAR 64s, I presume these are conventional parcans, rather than LED ones, so in effect all you have is 12 dimmed channels? What do you need? Would a two-preset desk do, or do you need submasters / cue stacks, etc?
TomHoward
It also has it's qwirks in operation, but Used Lighting have some Zero 88 Jesters in cases for £450 which may fit the bill: http://www.usedlighting.co.uk/control/cons...ster-1224-cased However, you would have to aquaint yourself with the thing, because it also has the possibility of starting up in playback mode. parky58
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this post. I have bit the bullet and bought a Zero88 Jester off ebay this morning. I paid £360 so if it fails my requirements I can sell it on without losing too much (hopefully). Regards, Steve
smalljoshua
The Jester is a good desk so you shouldn't have any problems with it. The user support is good and there are regular software updates. Josh
dave1022
I currently use a ETC smartfade junior for about 16 static lights in my school. It's very intuitive and easy to use, but I'm not sure on the price.

parky58
Took delivery of the Zero88 Jester today. Refreshingly simple to use, especially with a monitor. Thanks again for all your help and advice. Steve
