improving videor recordings

Hi

We currently record video with our Panasonic AG-HMC71E HD camera.

What would we need to do if we wanted to have 2 cameras for different angles and have the ability to switch between the 2.

Where would we record to if we used this method?

Thanks

A video mixer with built in synchroniser - so popular ones from Edirol and Panasonic are popular (and second hand ones occasionally pop up on ebay) - if you want to do this live, then you need three monitors, one for each camera and one to see the output. Recording wise - you can buy an expensive DV deck, or record direct to a computer with suitable software, maybe with a cheap DVD recorder as safety backup. Audio wise - you can choose the output from one camera as the audio source, or connect the video mixer to a better sound source, depending on what you have available. In practice, it can be quite cheap - but the extras add up. To do it properly, the person mixing needs to be able to talk to the cameras, so some kind of comms system is needed. Not really difficult to do cheaply and simply, it just gets more expensive when you start to get clever.

It might work out cheaper to buy another camera, record onto the cameras and then do the mixing in post production, using a software package like Final Cut or Adobe Premiere.

Still wants some coordination of shots though, so that you never end up with both transitioning between shots at the same time.
