Sony CX100 - options for shortening the throw

Hi All,

someone has recently ordered this projector for the office for an install and the minimum image size is about 6 metres across (on a 6 metre throw), somehow I've ended up having to deal with this!

I'm fairly sure that the only options available with this particular projector are:

  1. Ceiling Mount the projector in the middle of the ceiling (its currently on the opposite wall), however this involves drilling into the asbestos ceiling and therefore the cost is basically that of the projector
  2. Getting a suitable projector

before I go back and tell them they need to do the second, does anyone have any other suggestions?

thanks,

This is what comes of not buying from a specialist like us

they would have asked the right questions to supply a projector

that will do the job.

if you want the projector where it is then you need a different projector with a long lens - expensive

cheapest option I'd say is, hang the projector in the right place and pay for the asbestos to be sorted

Jason's point is right, although quite a blunt way to put it...

It does appear that the machine won't give you a small image size, and it's either a new lens or new position. I guess the Asbestos route isn't the preferred way due to the cost, and disruption that altering the asbestos brings.

The lowest cost units that we've come across with lens options are the Hitachi CPX6xx series, starting about 4000 lumen and £1925 RRP. Then about £1500 for the lens.... Ouch. At that point putting 4 holes into a ceiling for a Unicol mount, then a bit of self adhesive trunking to get the cables there seems more cost effective...

Other than that I'm afraid I'm all out of ideas.

Pete.

or the senior broadcast engineer being based a few thousand miles away and the project manager not asking the ex-AV tech (aka me) about it before ordering it... one of those options ;-)

thanks Pete, as I thought but wanted to check I wasn't missing an obvious option as its been a couple of years!
