whitehousejamie
Hi All, Had a quick search on the subject but was unable to find anything. I will be renewing my PLI cover soon. What amount of cover would you recommend as the minimum? £1 million, £2 million, £5 million? Most of my work is small corporate events and lighting for bands etc. Currently have a policy with Torribles. Can anyone suggest any other companies for a competive quotation? Any input much appreciated. Thank You Jamie
Stee_cri1
hi there go for £5 million, better to be safe than sorry, also alot of larger companies require this. Try Bectu im with them and it great tonnes of extra stuff if them, highly recomended and cheap only £120 for the first year

The Gaffa
I suggest a minimum of £10mill, If available. Ive just paid my annual premium for 09/10, which has cost £475+VAT, via Aviva (Formally Norwich Union), (NOTE: This is a continued policy that I've had for the last 25 years). I would strongly suggest that anyone looking for this type of cover, check all available options, and costs, As some insurers are not prepared to offer this unless you are an established company or venue. What do you do, juggle hand grenades while lion taming at the top of a 25m pole over the audience? :) I'm pretty sure that VAT isn't payable on most insurance, just IPT at 5%. Tony Gayle Audio
£5 million is the minimum you should go for. I'm with Arthur Doodson in Manchester who specialise in the entertainment business and understand exactly what you need covered. http://www.doodsonbg.com/

Most of the companies I contract to request £5million PLI now. Doodsons are a great company to deal with, very knowledgeable. The policy I have with Doodsons covers Public AND product liability insurance for the same cost some companies do just public liability.
steve1981
Imay need to fit a couple of lights at this venue wen I do the rewire. What kind of PPL or insurance do I need to get and can anyone recommend a company and type of over required? Also, a rough cost. (I'm not sure how it is worked out.) Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Moderation: This is a new post that has been merged with this current one
johnlinford
Agreed on going for a minimum of £5mil; I've got £5mil with cover for up to 5 temporary employees via AXA and arranged through a local broker that was about £300 for the year. I'll probably be upping to £10mil when I renew in a month or so... David is correct, only IPT is payable on insurance, no VAT.
drsound
Bear in mind if you're doing electrical installation work you must tell them this. It's a whole different ballgame from the temporary stuff that most of us are insured for. If you could be deemed to be the designer of any part of the system you might also want to take advice on whether Professional Indemnity is required. This is cover for commercial claims arising from a technical error on your part (as distinct from claims for injury or damage). Say you put in the wrong size of cable and it has to be ripped out and changed for the right size. Your client would be entitled to take you to court to recover the costs. PI would help defend your case.
