Andy_G
Morning All, I've just bought a load of 5mm steel wire rope grip kits from Stage to make up some wire ropes in a hurry.Does anyone know what torque the gripples should be done up to?I've contacted my local branch and they are finding out for me but I thought someone in hear may know sooner. Many Thanks, Andy
j_b
Do you mean gripple (e.g. http://www.tornadowire.co.uk/dnn/Toolsanda...07/Default.aspx ) because these are done up with a tension force, not a torque. If you do mean torque, then perhaps you have wire rope 'dog grips' (saddle and U bolt) which you do up with a couple of nuts.
kitlane
Assuming it is wire rope grips (dogs) to DIN 1142 then for 5mm SWR it is likely to be 3 grips at 2 Nm each. But please DO check with the manufacturers data. Also, do you know how to fit them correctly? (Correct spacing, never saddle a dead horse)
Andy_G
Thanks for the quick replies. Yes I did mean dog grips, obviously just using the wrong term. Yes I do know how to make them up correctly with 3 grips, u bolts on the stray end and properly spaced etc etc. I've got a load gone through a few LOLER inspections now when we get all our other rigging gear inspected. I just wasn't sure on the torque for these ones from stage. Cheers,Andy
