Matt Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 we are in the process of purchasing a pearl 2000 desk to control the lightin arrangement we have in our nice new dance studio, and seeing as I am gonna be one of the main 2 people using it, I was wondering if any of you folks out there could offer me advice on hints and tips etc... for using it, and any problems that I my run into when using it. Would be most gratefully appreciated. Matt.
Guest lightnix Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Get yourself booked on a training session at Avolites, it's probably the quickest way to get to grips with the desk, they do a nice buffet lunch and usually throw in some swag as well  Apart from that: to save wasting preset foci, I always create an "Open" focus for all the movers and store open colour, open gobo, open iris, shutter, frost, etc. on it. It's possible to store more than one attribute on a preset focus. If you call up that focus with the "Dimmer" attribute selected, then all the attributes stored on that focus are recalled at once. Nice desk, very buskable.
Pete McCrea Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 As lightnix says they are very buskable. Do an Avo course, and you'll be well away. They'll teach you the tricks that allow for faster work, and how to do things 'properly'.
Matt Posted May 8, 2004 Author Posted May 8, 2004 and I would need to speak to someone at avo about this... who shall I speak to, where would it be and whats the cost spring into my mind.
peter Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 The lovely Lindsay Marchant - her details are on the avo website, and its about £30 I seem to remember.
paulears Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I bought an avo azure about a year ago for a project in a nightclub - bit of a daft question, but I can't remember the pins I set for the access levels. Is there an obvious reset - I'm not worried if it wipes the shows - the gigs finished now and I'd like to use it again soon.p
Guest lightnix Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Avolites training is done at their HQ at 184 Park Avenue, London, NW10 7XL. Click here for the Avolites training page. Click here for instructions on how to find Avolites. Click here for a map from Multimaps.
DanielArkley Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 You might want to play with the Pearl Simulator. It's old though, and hasn't been updated in a while. Also the "channel" button causes it to crash.
wilcoxjnr Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 Paul, Isn't there a jumper inside the desk that you can put across two pins to remove the PIN protection on an Azure? Or am I thinking of another desk...
paulears Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 I'll open it up and have a look! thanks for the tip. paul
