tij5987
Hi all, Just after some suggestions on how best to create a two way mirror effect. Desired effect requires performer to be looking into the mirror and see his genuine reflection - and then have another figure appear as if from within the mirror. Any help and suggestions appreciated as ever. Many thanks in advance. Tom
norty303
Probably the cheapest would be to get some stick on window sheets that are designed for office/home windows to reduce sunlight. they have a semi mirrored finish. The 2 way mirror trick requires the area behind the glass to be very dark and the front very bright. The front light should be high up close to the glass as little light as possible shines through to light behind the glass. This is the same technique as used to make people/things suddenly appear by using light gauze across a stage. By suddenly switching on the rear light (and probably dimming the front one a bit) you can then make someone appear 'in the mirror'
andy_s
This sort of thing is what you need. It's not cheap. There is an acrylic version which is more affordable, but may not be acceptable in terms of the fire retardancy requirements. It's also possible to get a film which can be applied to the standard clear sheet, but this process can be tricky to get right, as air bubbles and dust can be a problem. As Norty says, dark behind the mirror means reflection will be seen. Light behind the mirror means person standing behind it will be seen. You may need to experiment a bit to get the best angle for illumination.
Gerry
A quick search of BR would have shown this topic has been dealt with several times. Cheap and effective solution is to buy the film boy racers use on their car windows,. Get it at car accessory shops. CheersGerry
kitlane
Or try a glazing/window specialist. Google "solar film". 1.2m x 2m will cost about £30. Apply to glass or clear plastic with some warm water and a squeegee. Or stretch it over a wooden frame and very carefully heat shrink it.
maeterlinck
Rosco make a 'gel' that is mirrored one side and will let light through when lit from behind. I've used it before to good effect. Can't remember it number though...
