ace Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Hi Guys... We are in the process of setting up an access grid node - this is kinda like advanced video conferencing (see pics). I have a budget of £100 to buy 3 or 4 microphones (probably PZM's?) and a very basic mixer to combine all of the microphones so that they can connect to the 3.5mm jack on a computer sound card. Any suggestions? The most important factor is to avoid feeding back the audio that we are recieveing as this causes echo... http://www.informatics.bangor.ac.uk/~chughes/ag/1.jpghttp://www.informatics.bangor.ac.uk/~chughes/ag/3.jpg Thanks.. robloxley Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 How many people - you could go for XLR tieclip microphones - but you might be pusing it on cost. Alternatively some kind of unidirectional boundary mic - PZMs are a bit omnidirectional. For a very basic mixer you could go for a Behringer or little Soundcraft desk of a suitable size. If its to be used by non-technical people, one with fewer knobs (or cover up the non-essential ones) might be an idea. To save on cost, probably move all people to sit in one place - facing the screen - to reduce microphones needed.

I'm not sure whether something like a Shure automixer would be compatible with your budget, but it might help your situation by reducing the number of mics open at any one time.
ajv Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 The hardware spec for the Manchester Access Grid node (top 3 pictures and mid-left picture in your second image) is available online, and the page also contains a link to the general Access Grid Hardware Specification Recommendation. That said, the prices listed are possibly slightly out of your budget range. :** laughs out loud **:
