Scenic material for back to back painting?

Recommended Posts

An upcoming production needs four vertical "banners" 6m tall by 1.8m wide, travelling across stage on track. They will be mounted on swivel actions to allow them to be angled and reversed. They will have no frame to speak of, but will be conduit weighted at the bottom.

There will be a different design on either side of the canvas (so the rotation/reversal is a scene change). Being a novice in scenic matters with very little budget to speak of, what is the best material to go for? Calico looks like a cheap option, but when painted, will the design bleed through on the reverse? Is there a way to stop this from happening? Is scenic canvas a better option? Are we better off making two strips for each banner and tagging them back to back? Any and all advice welcomed.

I think we're going to need about 26m(or 52m) in total, so am a bit (very) nervous about spending the whole budget on the wrong thing...

Cheers,

Gareth.
