When tested through DMX the tilt makes a very loud noise when rotating (does not rotate fully and sometimes stops and shakes) the noise is very loud and absolutely not normal. I have changed the driver chips, checked motors, and connections and still makes that noise! Is there something I'm missing?

 

I'm guessing it could be a bad board since I replaced the bad board with a working one (swapped chips) and it works.

 

Can someone please point me in the right direction. What actions should I take?

 

Oh I forgot to mention that the display error shows E260 (which is tilt) and sometimes it displays E "5" or could be an "S" 20 (error not in the manual, which is weird)

But in case it helps anyone else, from Coef's trouble shooting guide:

TILT is loosing the position:

Check/replace motor 18

Replace U19 & U20

Check R119-R120-R121=~1 ohm

Check R124-R125-R126=~1 ohm

 

 

Basically, when (any) of the driver chips blow it may also take out the low value resistors around it.

I have a Coeff MP150 with a failed cpu chip, whole unit destined for the bin.

 

No assistance from Coeff they did,nt even recognise the unit. They said the unit would have to go back to the supplier ,well I am in Tenerife no suppliers here so the bin here it comes. and yes I have swopped all components with the working unit, it is definately the CPU hard soldered onto the control board (SMD)

I have the same problem here and the Irish weather does not make up for it.

Coef gave me the name of their 'new' Irish distributor, they have a fancy website, but don't answer emails and have not filed any accounts since the company was registered 3 years ago! Are they worth a phone call??

 

After many hours on Google:

 

Go to www.iwsl.co.kr, on the bottom left of the screen click on , Technical Support. You will find Trouble Shooting guides and detailed schematics for some of the models, but not the MP150. From what I have seen the MP250 Zoom/Fresnel are the same with different firmware and the Performance 250 DV/DVP are electrically much the same as the MP250 etc etc..

It might give you a couple of things to try/test on the board.

 

It leaves you wondering why IAG would buy Coef, presumably for the existing customers goodwill and brand recognition? But, then not bother to give any support for their older products, even putting the above files on their own website would help. They seem to have forgotten that previous 'customers' are the very same people who will purchase new fixtures in the future. I suppose it must be the modern Chinese way, 'design' a product, outsource production to a OEM factory to run off a batch or two and then move on to the next product. Not worrying about after sales support/service, everything is now and new.

 

BTW. Does anyone have any or a source for Coef Performance DV/DPV mirrors? I need two, but I am missing the black mounting bracket which attaches the glass to the servo on one unit.

 

I also have a number of seized/very stiff stepper motors (over heat, fans failed, liquid ingestion!) in a MP250, if I clean the iron shavings from the insides am I as well to replace the bearings. They are KOYO 625-5Z, I have emailed KOYO, but they don't seem to know what '5Z' means, but have 5ZZ's in stock! Would they be the same as 625 ZZ/2Z with a C3 clearance and high temperature grease?

Hi TOW I checked out the trouble shooting guide to the MP250 and established what I already knew, replace microprocessor. CPU U2 chip.

 

two problems..

 

1)chance of getting one and where from is a real issue.

2) they are surface mounted. so without specialist equipment and an electronic microscope very difficult to change.

 

so the unit remains on the scrap list.

 

your problem with stepper motors is very comon and has been covered many times.

open motor use a dremel either sanding drum or wire brush to clean interior of laminates.

bearings respond well to thin oil and a good spin or isopropyl alcohol, works well to remove the orange residue of dried grease.

I did a quick Google and it seems you can get the CPU for about 7 USD.

I agree, soldering it is a major problem without the equipment/skill. Even replacing a SM resistor is easier said than done.

Problem 3 is the Firmware, it appears to live on the CPU's built in ROM, and you need Coef's "Uniprog 8" to program it.

 

My gut feeling is that a CPU chip is in its self unlightly to fail. However, you may get a better return by stripping it and ebaying the parts!

 

Does it use the same elusive (MH17H101-20, MH17HN201-20, 42NWH0007-03B) NEMA 17, 35 Ohm, .4 Amp motors?

Does anyone have the full spec for these?
