Old cloths?

Hi, im a technician who has just started a youth group in kent and were putting on our first show (which is a showcase of 11 musicals) in June, and was looking to know if anyone knows anywhere or anyone who is either throwing ANY size/colour/etc cloth away or selling very cheaply (as we are on a tight budget, ** laughs out loud **) as we need a cloth that we can cut to add a door and paint our designs on.

Any reply would be greatfull.

Thanks.

Would old bed linen be any good ?

If you are visiting london, there is a stall in the brick lane sunday market that sells laundered ex-hotel linens very cheaply (sheets, duvet covers, curtains, bedspreads etc) prices from about £2-00.

The goods are mainly sold for re use as bedding by the cheaper type of hotel/hostel. Badly damaged items suitable for your purpose might be even cheaper.

The stall is in SCLATER STREET about half way along and is open from early until about 13-30 every Sunday.

Do you, or should you anyway whether you are forced to or not, have to worry about fire retardancy?
we do but we can do it ourselves

If you are painting the cloths, then if you can find someone that's handy with a sewing machine, there's no reason why you can't sew the sheets together.

It's unlikely that you'd be able to find cloth that cheap, that is any bigger. You're lucky to be paying that much and getting more than scraps from the end of a roll!!

A market is definitely the best place to look though. There are always bargains lurking in the backstreets!

A good, cheap place to look is abakhan fabrics. There's one in Liverpool and in Manchester but not sure about anywhere else. They sell masses of stuff but not always consistent so you might have to visit a few times before you get what you want. They sell fabric by weight and we've picked up some real bargains there and our students use it all the time for their shows.

Hope this helps.
