Ike Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Having been to a very interesting production meeting today I now need to source some flame resistant feathers for a forthcomming event. The event will be indoors, its a single event and we are wanting to pretty much cover the stage in them. Cleaning up after is not a major concern. As well as being flame retardent they must not cause allergic reactions to staff or punters. They do not need to be very realistic from close up however they must float in a similar mannor to real feathers and should prefrably be white. The event is in very early stages of planning so we may change our minds but both me and the director have got our hearts set on the idea to be honest. Thanks Ike
Ike Posted February 17, 2004 Author Posted February 17, 2004 This kind of thing: http://www.usounds.com/images/feather.jpg Only non hazardous and non flammable oh yeah...and we want a stage full :)
Peter Tovey Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Have just (3 weeks ago) finished a production with similar requirements. We simply bought a couple of cheap pillows, ripped them open and soaked the contents in a bucket of flamebar. This does work for the downy type feathers in a pillow, but won't for larger quill types (as they are designed to repel water!). We needed to soak them for about 24 hours before we were happy they were sufficiently retardent. It is amazing how many fethers there are in a pillow - it takes at least 5 buckets to do each pillow. Oh - whilst they do float down very nicely, they are very difficult to release from a standard sling type petal drop between two overstage bars, as they tend to clump together in lumps too large to easily fall through the slits. Good luck.
