Paul J Need
173.8, 174.1, 174.5, 174.8 and 175.0 are the five dereg, or Licence exempt VHF frequencies. You can buy a radio kit, plug it in and not need to worry about applying for a licence. 174.8 however is not intermod free when being used with 175.0 and 174.5, so if you need to use more than 3 together, avoid going for 174.8. All other VHF channels require a licence, however certain bands are reserved for ENG or co-ordinated events, so you basically have the shared channels to choose from if you need more that 4 kits. UHF frequencies between 863.000 MHz – 865.000 MHz are also licence free. UHF (Channel 69) 854.900 - 855.275 - 855.900 - 856.175 - 856.575 - 857.625 - 857.950 858.200 - 858.650 - 860.400 - 860.900 - 861.200 - 861.550 - 861.750 Some are for indoor some for outdoor use and all require a licence, whether a venue or sie licence which is now £75.00 per block of frequencies. I shouldn't have started writing this.......... too late!!!! B)
Peter Russell
Channel 69 is very often reffered to as deregulated it should be noted however, that the use of channel 69 is not actually licence exempt and comes under the heading of 'Shared frequencies', it is necessary to buy an annual licence for these, this is covered by most hire companys, but if you are buying mics for either a fixed site or for use at different venues then a fee of £75a year is payable to the JFMG. Have a look at the link below for more information. Peter JFMG - Shared Frequencies Information
