Hazers

A show coming up want to use a hazer in a couple of numbers to go with the movers etc, only problem being that it isnt wanted for the bits before, or after.

After isnt a problem, as a swift switch on of the extractors should suck it out quite quickly (works fine for fog & pyro smoke anyway.)

the hall is approx 60` long, 50`wide and 50`high and seats 300 is there a hazer (to hire) that can fill this area in a few seconds, and would an assist of a couple of foggers help, or just look bad?

second, oil or water based?

That all depends on the look you're going for. Oil based tends to create a thicker haze/fog. Water is thinner, but doesn't last as long, which is good at times. If you're going for an eerie look, go for using a fogger or two, as long as you have some that can cover the floor of the hall in about the same amount of time as the hazer can fill it.

been covered recently here, but didn't go anywhere because nobody produces real specs for the machines in terms of output/density/coverage etc.

Air currents as people mentioned, are the key - so you could fill it quickly, somebody opens a door, the wind's in a certain direction and poof - it's gone. Equally - do you want to haze the stage area, or the entire room? Is there air con? If so, where does it suck from, or blow to?

Frankly you're going to have to try it.

I'll leave the topic open in the hope somebody has new info to post - but frankly, it's a "how long is a piece of string" style question, and all answers will be meaningless without specific data unlikley to be available. Even the bigegst hazer would have a problem doing what you ask in 'a few seconds. This is 150,000 square feet (a very odd shaped room) so if your few seconds is say, 10 (to make the maths easy) that still means an output of 15,000 sq ft of haze per second is required. I've been a bit silly here - the prospect of that much haze quickly is a bit scary. 10 minutes would seem quick for a space such as yours.

As for oil or water - haze or smoke - it has to go somewhere, so most people prefer a solution (pun intended) that works for the venue.
