Malcolm Gordon
I'm not sure if this belongs here or in Props. For set dressing a forthcoming production of "Moon over Buffalo", set in Buffalo NY in the 1950s, I am looking for American electrical sockets (convenience outlets) and a plug for an iron, all non-practical, preferably period. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't know if this has been discussed before, I couldn't think of a suitable search term. At the moment eBay produces only highly decorative face plates for same.
Andrew C
CPC do the plugs CS05838, and from memory (I was there in the 60's) it looks about right, I thought I had seen sockets in their catalogue too, but can't see them now.
dbuckley
RS do a 110V socket, but it's a single, and UK boxed sized, neither quality of which makes it look right, even if functionally ok.
Don Allen
We have bought US outlets from RS Australia, NEMA they are called and they were very cheap which surprised us. There are some very expensive ones in their catalogue. RS now order from the states on a 5 to 10 working days arrangement.See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEMA_connectors
Malcolm Gordon
Thanks for the responses so far. I don't know if three pins were habitually used in the 50s - we are also entering the play in a festival and I would like to get it right. Function doesn't matter. Andrew C
I lived 'on the wrong side of the Pond' mid '60s - 72, and they were still selling new houses with 2 and three pin outlets then. Whether the '50s were different, I'm unable to relate.
