ChazHS
In all honesty the main differences between cheap and expensive amps are the components, the quality that they are assembled, their thermal reliability, power handling and their efficiency. We mainly use Crest, Crown, LabGruppen and a few others - which are higher end amps. For a cheap install Id reccomend someone like Carlsbro or even cheaper SkyTronic, Sky will definatly not last more than 6 months but you are looking at about £500 for about a 12k rig ** laughs out loud **... Rob_Beech
So manufacturers are making amplifiers that will "DEFINATLY" not last 6 months? what sort of warranty do you get on these?
jayselway
If it was a year, then I'd be hoping for a new amp every so often - saves on cleaning them out!
lightsource
So manufacturers are making amplifiers that will "DEFINATLY" not last 6 months? what sort of warranty do you get on these? One interesting point that may be a little I used to know a design engineer who worked for a huge manufacturing company, some of who's products are used in the industry, and over ten years ago he stated that all their products had a specific design life, some a short as 15 months If it was a year, then I'd be hoping for a new amp every so often - saves on cleaning them out! :D But when they pop in the middle of a gig, you may have to clean the egg off your face ;)
jamesperrett
If anyone here is into looking at newsgroups then a quick search for a guy called Graham Stevenon aka Pooh Bear will turn up some interesting info on designing power amps down to a price. Cheers James.
Rob_Beech
To expand, Graham IS studiomaster (in the design sense). Well worth a good look around to find some information! It may also be worth pointing out that some other peoples views in various newsgroups that we participate in may not be for family viewing.
