  1. One fairly shoddy cheat (depending on which particular desk you've got) that can deliver the effect you want is to programme your show as a chase, then (on the 2 faders) set the dwell time to max, the fade time to whatever you fancy and control to Manual. Tap the Tap button & you get a half decent crossfade from chase step to chase step. Not sure if you can jump about in the chase sequence when it is running, didn't try that when I was programming the thing The Showtec 16/2 FX LOOKS as if it'll do what you want but £300 may be outside the budget. The 16/2 is half the price but doesn't allow scenes on faders (the 16/2 FX does) There's a few community halls I've done jobs in recently where they've splashed out on a load of LED gear to replace the old (70s) setup of Minims, Minuettes, Pat 23s etc and a 2 preset manual desk- they're all finding the same problem (no easy way to give casual users easy control of the lighting without complex and/or expensive controllers).
  2. Couple of good tips there- ta. Not actually mine (belongs to a bunch I work for occasionally), if I get another half hour free with it I'll give them a try.EDIT There's at least one thermal switch/fuse on the main heatsink- doesn't look like a one-shot and its showing continuity so still suspicious of the PSU Indeed it is- nice little beasts, no idea how many hours but nowhere near enough to hit the 50,000 quoted :) Hi, Thanks for confirming. The Rogue R1 Spot has electronic dimming / strobe so this may then point to the drive circuitry of the LED being at fault or perhaps an overtemp error causing it not to turn the LED on. It's all potentially repairable. If you would like to book the unit in for assessment to determine exactly what is at fault, or if you need any further help just let me know. Kind regards, Dennis Ta. Not actually mine (company I work for occasionally) but will pass that on. Yeah the DMX chart mentions dimmer but I'm sure the things sit there glowing all the time when they're powered up (wonder if the profile on the disco desk they have is driving the shutter rather than the dimmer.......)

  4. Cheers chap- first time I've used Strand for about 5 years as well, couldn't resist for £10 but with everyone going LED the channel count is a bit tight- scary how the numbers rack up with 2 dozen LED cans and 4 movers (village halls are quite well kitted out these days) :)
  5. Ha, Funny you should pop your head up today- delving into a poorly 300 at the moment. Old old one so lifting the motherboard to get at the battery is being a pain.....how's tricks anyway? Don't suppose you've got the magic number for upping channel count have you :)
  6. Ah, didn't spot the 6A bit in the manual. No there's no electronic dimming, the units lamp on as soon as you power up. The LED shows the right sort of impedance for a big diode (infinite one way round, about half an ohm the other) so more likely the PSU is goosed. Once this current show is over I'll dismember the other one (which still works) and do a bit of comparison testing..... Done a coarse diode test (reversed meter probes) & impedance is infinite one way round and about half an ohm the other. There's at least one overheat device on the heatsink but that metered out OK. SMPS may be the fault area- label on the side says 30v, there's one pair of outputs which are at 30v, the lamp pair are at 8v (should have checked for any AC component while I had it apart but forgot). Dimming is mechanical so can cross that one off the list :)
  7. Was having a look at one of these- all the motorised bits work fine but the lamp (big fat LED) has stopped working. Anyone know what voltage a 140v LED normally likes- I was seeing 8v (which to me sounds a bit low, the wiring didn't look beefy enough to run 17 amps for very long). Ta
  8. Oh good grief. Opera North had one of these, I spent a month operating it back in the 90s but can't remember how it worked- maybe if I was sitting in front of it some memory would come back but no guarantees.
  9. Lordy, I remember going to the launch party for that thing- there was an M24 shaped cake and everything. The mux was a bit annoying- it was analogue timebased and a bit prone to flickery dimmers.....did it go to a good home, if not it can join my Galaxy coffee table :)
