We are looking to possibly hire in 2 freestanding spiral staircases for a show. Ideally they would be useable, but may just be used for decoration purposes. I'm struggling to find anything that doesn't have to lead up onto a balcony. We have thought about making our own but just wondered if there were any companies that hire them out, or kits you can make your own? Ideally it would be a few metres in height Thanks

We have a GLD 80 and the level jumps up to 10db from 0db as soon as the fader hits anything past 0db. The physical fader itself doesn't but the level and the display is at 10db. This is happening across all inputs, outputs, everything that's there. I have tried loading different scenes and shows, restarting the desk. Is there a setting I have missed? Thanks

I am trying to create an effect where it looks as if haze is coming up from beneath the stage (a bog / river), and wondered what the best way is to get an even distribution of the haze across a 6 metre stage. Part of the front of the stage will be lowered so everything can be hidden within it. I am thinking some kind of ducting / tubing attached to the machine with some holes along it. I have loads of FloPlast weld waste plastic pipe, would this just melt? Also got some flexible plastic piping. And can I attach the end directly to the output of the machine or would I need an adaptor of some kind? The machine is a Le Maitre MVS hazer. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your replies. We have decided we are going to go for an easier option and use some wired strip instead. Which brings me on to another question and please excuse my lack of experience in this kind of thing… So I have some 12V 14.4W RGBW tape, and a 24 channel decoder with a max output of 3A per channel. I’m wanting to power 8 lengths of strip from this, hoping for them to be 5 metres each. I am unsure of the best way to power this, which kind of driver I should get and what it needs to be. I am sure there can be a compromise in terms of how many strips and the length but I just want to know what is the most I can run with that strip and one or two drivers. Many thanks

Not essential I don't think, at the least the frames need to be turned on and off whilst being held by the cast members on stage.

More money Thought as much... Will have to think of alternative ideas then!

Hi, I've been given a brief to create 12 light up frames, that are mobile and held by cast members. They ideally would be fully dimmable and colour changing. My initial thought was wireless LED strip hidden on the inside of the frames. Unfortunately I don't really know much about wireless DMX kits (not set up before myself) and we do not have much of a budget, (£100ish for lighting). Is this something that is even possible with that amount of money? We do already have lots of 12V LED strip... What are the essentials I would need, and how would I go about setting it up? Thanks everyone for your help - the recording went well, and I'm really happy with the results! Reading your comments about how a lot of classical broadcasting is done with just 2 mics, leads me to wonder if this will suffice for other events I have coming up; I know I'll have bigger groups with more of a variety of instruments.. I'm pretty limited on resources and being new to recording I'm not sure how I'd achieve a multitrack recording should I need to. Unless there's a fairly inexpensive USB audio interface that has more than 2 48v inputs?

Hi, I've got to record a group of about 12 people playing strings on stage, just cellos and violins I think. I only have the capability to record onto 2 inputs into my computer at the moment, so my options are 2 boundary mics on the front of the stage (Superlux E303 cardiods) or I've got 2 AKG 414s. It's also being filmed so I don't really want to stick mics infront of everyone. Pretty new to recording and this kind of area so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I'm doing some PAT testing at my school, and am not sure if I need to PAT test our IWBs? They are hung on to our motorised bars but are essentially an individual unit. If so, how would I go about doing this? I have only ever tested fixtures before so may not be something I could do myself Thanks

Before shipping I did independently verify - the OP is a staff member and definitely not a student. I work as a technician in the arts centre we have at the school, but my knowledge of practical wiring and electrics is limited. We have a maintenance department I get on well with so am going to get their assistance in making these! Hi, I've been asked to help set up a workshop for some students to learn some filming techniques. The teacher wants to project the feed from the camcorder to a projector so the whole class can see what's on the screen. It will be a JVC Pro HD camcorder, it's got HDMI, AV, and mini USB A connections. Can this be done without any software? Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I'm based in Cambridge Hiring would be a good idea, needed for 2 weeks mid October. The budget is kind of as little as I'm able to spend (I'm in a school and don't have a specific lighting budget, just what the director is willing to part with of £500) But I know he is struggling with that amount aside from any technical investment. It is also being filmed so money is having to go towards that equipment too. Hi, I have been briefed to create a lighting design including some hanging edison bulbs / festoon but I have a really limited budget (probably around £50) so I'm thinking there is no way I can get anything like that for this amount?! What else could I do to create this effect? Low hanging lighting? The brief is set in a gloomy forest and I am making some trees from tubes and branches, so perhaps some low side lighting will help. Other that I'm not sure! Any ideas welcome! Thanks
