  1. I've got about 8 S4 bodies that I no longer want and can't be bothered to put on ebay.

I'm offering them in batches of 4, plus whatever's left over. Some might need a simples repair, I have some spare parts.

COLLECTION ONLY from 15 miles north of Cambridge.

If they aren't gone in 4 weeks then they go in the skip.

If you are interested then send me a PM saying why you would like them. Preference given to community groups and similar.

    I repeat - NO LENSES.

If you wanted to make a cash donation to my beer fund, all well and good. If you don't, that's perfectly fine. It won't sway my decision.

I've never been able to work out why that format is used, the first point failure is usually the screen potentially putting mic body at 50v etc.

I believe it was standard at BBC but they banned it years ago.

The screen coming out of the back of the Hellerman sleeve makes more sense to me.

If you look carefully you will see that the cable is not a flexible 'mic' cable but an installation cable, in this case FST. As such, there is no strain on the screen as the whole thing will be laced within the rack.

I've probably been responsible for the termination of over 50k cables, so 100k connectors, in this fashion and can't remember a single failure.

In 50years I rarely come across Pin 1 taken to chassis of the plug and have never done it. The only time I could see it might be advantageous is if the connectors were adjacent to something unscreened kicking out a lot of electrical or higher frequency interference.

That's why the tag should ONLY be connected on equipment, so that the ground continues onto the connector and surrounds the termination.

Thanks all for the replies, I had a feeling it wouldn’t be quite as black and white as I thought!

Really? There's doubt? It's very clear.

    BS7671 states, in 521.11.201...

    Quote

Wiring systems in escape routes  shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of fire.

...and in Note 2 to the above...

this precludes the use of non-metallic cable clips, cable ties or cable trunking as the sole means of support.

  5. BS7671 for fixed installations, and by extension BS7909 for temporary installations, contains various requirements that in the event of a fire all cabling and equipment is to stay where it was so as to not introduce additional hazards for the fire service.

So you'll also be in breach of your premises licence.

  6. Does your desk have Artnet/SaCN out? There are drivers out there that take in Artnet/SaCN and drive multiple LED 'universes'.

Also gives you the option to drive the LEDs from a PC with something like JINX.

But if the ramp is of any length, as a kindness to wheelchair users, make it shallower if you can!

I have a colleague who has quite blunt views on 1:12 ramps...

1 in 12, per Building Regulations, is only acceptable for very short ramps. Anything longer and you are looking at 1 in 15, all the way out to 1 in 20.
