  1. My day job is with a higher education institution. For certain product categories (particularly CPC only items), there is no discount. I've found that Onecall tends to bias search results towards Farnell - however you may get better pricing through Onecall by feeding it the equivalent CPC part numbers. In my experience Onecall are Ok with non-account orders for personal use, provided that the order is paid for at the time with a card and delivered to a place that does have an account.

I also use CPC/OneCall/Farnell in my day job (at a Uni) and depending on the item, discounted prices are offered via the NUWPEC pricing framework (also available from RS). I'm not sure whether this pricing structure is offered to other types of Educational customers, but probably worth checking.

  2. If these are the black, squarish model with the four IEC sockets on the top, then I would also agree that DMX polarity will be the issue (pin 2 and 3 reversed). I seem to recall though that, rather unhelpfully, the DMX LED flashes whatever polarity the unit 'sees'. Usual safety/competence caveats apply, but it's not a major job to internally re-wire these units.
  3. I had a few of these. Fairly easy to service and spares are available. I'd check that the rear lenses aren't cracked (I had that happen to a few) and for that price, I'd probably expect the shutter blades included as well.
  4. There seem to have a been a few topics lately where fixtures (usually through age or 'bargain pricing') are not happy with a console that is outputting RDM data. However, these could well exist in a rig where it would be advantageous to have RDM enabled for some of the other fixtures. So my question is, assuming one is, using a DMX DA, is there any way to strip off RDM from one of the DMX lines to keep the whole rig happy?
  5. I think there's one more step in there; mode > up/down until the display reads 'ChNd' then press enter then use up/down to select the DMX mode then press enter to confirm then press mode again to get out of the menus.

Then, if you're anything like me, wonder why the display is in a strange foreign language only to realise you've been reading it upside-down all along.

BTW, in case you hadn't spotted it, the DMX map is at the very end of the manual.

  6. Great sounding mics, but terrifyingly easy to cross thread the capsules when attaching them to the body. Superseded by the 'Blue Line' system, which I seem to recall did have extension tubes available and a much more robust bayonet fitting system for the capsules, but never seemed to quite capture the market in the same way.
