  1. So if you were to use a brighter LED source, what power of LED could you use in relation to the simplicity of your set up? (OK it's not exactly simple, but seems very straight forward rather than extremely complex). Would you need more or larger equipment?

It would be good to see if you could fit a brighter LED like 90w, etc. That would really get heads turning....

  2. LadyJane, I'm guessing that the shutters still control dimming attributes. The Miniscan HPE doesn't have a lamp control function. Although this has led me to a similar question....

When you power up the Miniscan (cover on) does the LED come on straight away (like how the lamp used to strike straight away)?

  3. I've taken the larger of the two fans out (the one that sits under the lamp/lens holder) as it isn't really needed. I've kept the smaller fan, but had to turn it round so that it sucks air into the fixture rather than pulls it out.

I'm not sure why you have turned the DC fan around.

The Miniscan was designed to extract the air out of the unit as both fans extract hot air and pull new air into the unit via the fan grill above the lamp.

By sucking air into the unit, the vacuum is lost and warm air is just pushed around inside the fixture.

To be honest, I would've kept both fans in and as they were. Although you may think the mains fan will not play a vital role, you still have the stepper motors that heat up and it means you can have a smaller heat sink.

I'm very impressed though! Makes me want to convert my Miniscan's now!

p.s. Can you take a few more pictures such as the LED compartment sitting in the Miniscan and the LED itself and how it sits

  4. Well I asked Avolites about upgrading a Pearl 2000 with an emulator. Apparently it wasn't a straight conversion and the PCB that controls the information from the disk drive would have to be totally removed and upgraded with a new PCB. I'm not sure if software upgrades were also needed but if they did it for me, the total would have been in the region of around £900 to £1200 to do!

I'm not sure about Fatfrogs but these were my circumstances....
