Will it Work with my Dimmer Pack?

Hi,

I previously posted about my green ginger 610 micro pack. From that thread (thanks for the help) I came across this a cheap demux.

However, I just realise (after buying) that it says 0-10 (assuming it means -10v) in the product description so I was wondering whether it would work with the dimmer pack?

Or could I rewire my dimmer pack to be -10v rather than whatever the standard is (mine is 8 pin din for context)?

To be honest, I would espect something described as 0-10V to be 0 to + 10v. Generally speaking, if someone's selling the negative version, I think they'd make a point of emphasising it, and that particular seller should know the difference.

In answer to your questions about whether you could rewire your dimmer pack, in short, no. Some dimmers, such as Zero 88 betapacks, are clever enough to 'autosense' and adapt as neccessary, but this is done using onboard electronics, not a simple wire swap.

Unfortunately these were designed to for feed Strand (-10v) dimmers from normal (+10v) desks. To the OP - The seller of the demux you've bought is a reputable supplier, & I think it is safe to assume that unless the blurb says "-10v" it won't be. You will however need to make up an 8-pin DIN lead for the dimmer end.

I have one o f these units, It does output 0 to +10v.

Due to the lockdown I cant get to my dimmers to test it fully,

 

You need to be fairly handy with a soldering iron to convert the ribbon cable output to whatever input your dimmer has.

My 12 ch dimmer rack has two 8pin sockets (Ch1-6 plus 12v and ground and Ch 7-12 plus 12v and ground)Also the unit is a bare shell, so I've had to fabricate a cover for one end and a way of attaching some output sockets.Mine, like the one in the picture has been modified to have the 240v ac routed to a chocolate block on the side.T

Seems an odd thing to want to do :huh:
