TomLyall
Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding this, but... A DMX signal is differential, that is, it has no fixed ground, and relies on a potential between the hot and cold line. Right? If you have a ground fault, are you better not to just remove the ground connection on one end of the DMX cable?
griff
a piece of 6mm cable from the other side of the room makes it all safe and stops DMX faults
niclights
I noticed mention of this occuring with a Pearl connected. I experienced a similar thing and assumed it was a fault in my DMX distribution (Celco Demux/Avo splitter), but it did indeed turn out to be the Pearl. All 2000 builds of Pearl software contained a key reading fault. Random HTP flashes to stage are one of the side-effects which may occur. 2004 builds fix this problem.Clearly this particular problem seems to be non-desk related, but I post just for the info. dbuckley
Buy, beg, borrow or steal an Artistic Licence Microscope, and use it to get a handle on what your errors are. This will alow you to immediately determine if this is an electrical or software problem.
PhilR
Clearly this particular problem seems to be non-desk related, but I post just for the info. It is also worth noting that occasionally a fixture of some kind doesn't "like" the Avo 'flavour' of DMX, usually because it's too fast and the fixture can't cope with the standards. I know there's a couple of examples, and presumably there's a few others I don't know about. Mostly, though, it's rare that there's a problem with the DMX from any desk and it proves to be the way in which it's output that causes a problem (unless it's something new!) If you do have a problem with the actual DMX (and this can usually be checked with a DMXter (or something similar), then you're best off calling the Avo service department for more info/help. napmusic
Its a zero 88 frog 2, but had probs with other desks...each cable run is a max of 30 metersabout 4 fixtures per lineDo you run a haze or fogger with DMX, If so turn all these on first before you power the desk. We have a Mambo Frog and have to do this all the time otherwise the movers go mad.
