knackered old seleco - help?

I don't know a lot about projectors, but I have an old Seleco SLC 700 projector which is a bit knackered, and I'd like to fix to some extent. The display has purple dots over a portion of it, and the fan is apparently knackered. The unit goes into temp protect mode within 30 seconds of switching on; the fan seems to be running ok, but I've been told the sensor is broken. Any ideas how I might go about fixing it, bar buying a whole new fan assembly?

I was also wondering what the purple dots might be; the projector's been consigned to the bin, so presumably this is likely to be an expensive fault, but does anyone have any good advice? They're annoying, but I only really want to use it for club visuals and I can probably live with them.

Your purple dots are probably due to dead green pixels. We had several projectors fail this way and sent them off for repair estimates. Can't remember the figures, but they were beyond economic repair. (new projectors were MUCH cheaper & brighter)

As to the fan... Any obstructions in the airflow? Does having the case open make a diference?

Cheers for that, I had a feeling it'd be uneconomical. still, it might be tolerable for vj use in a dingy club environment.

I haven't tried much with the fan yet; I think the airflow is fine, but I'll open it up and have a tinker at some point. I figured I'd get some advice before I covered the office in bits of projector.

If you are going to open it up, remember to treat it like your opening up the back of a telly, there are serious voltages stored up in them.

You will also find if it has been in a club/pub enviorment cigarette tar will be everywhere.
