Batteries

Hi All,

Well after much bargaining and amendment I managed to get the cost of sound for a show I'm doing down to a very reasonable price but then I got sent the consumables invoice for £250 which most of it goes to batteries!! Is there any cheap sources to get hold of PP3 batteries for radio mics??

Cheers All,

Sam

Hey sam

I tend to get Philips PP3 batteries from:

Mico Lighting Ltd.

Troydale Lane

Pudsey

Leeds

West Yorkshire

LS28 9LD

United Kingdom

Tel: 01132 567117

Fax: 01132 572358

They used to have a website www.mico.co.uk but it looks like it is not up and running, the company should still be running, I last used them in June.

Dont use own brand / cheap batteries. It really is not worth it.

Many years ago I let the director buy the batteries, she bought cheap ones. By the end of the show run it had cost much more as we got through the week supply in one night. Each battery would last only 2 numbers!

Stick with a known brand. We stock Duracell Procell.

I've emailed you directly and happy to give you a very competitive price.

If you work in higher education (I know the OP doesn't, but some of you may do...), your purchasing people will know about the national framework agreement for battery supplies. Basically all of the universities get together, agree to buy from the same source, go to tender, and twist the suppliers' arms.. Other large organisations (local authorities etc) will have similar arrangements.

Current suppliers for us are Onecall (which is another name for CPC/Farnell) and H-Squared Electronics. Typical pricing for Duracell Procell PP3-style is about 7 pounds for 10, and AA/AAA are less than 2 pounds for 10.

Bruce.

(Edit: )

PS - Freddie - you've probably not seen Duracell Procell cos they're not retail packed - they come in packs of 10 and are "trade/wholesale only".

They have exactly the same spec as the corresponding "coppertop" version - just different packaging and pricing.

One of the main benefits is that if you find them in someone's Walkman, then it's highly likely that they're pilfering...

You could try GBS (General Battery Supplies) on 020 8599 2920.

As Andyb said - don't use cheap batteries, it's not worth it as they are unlikely to last Act 1 and the 'turns' get mad when their mic dies halfway through a number, and then blame you from the stage in front of all the audience!

I just bought 150 procell PP3s from "Bataa" on Ebay (just search for procell). I think it came to about £140, so about £0.93 each. (THIS INCLUDES VAT & DELIVERY - DELIVERY WAS ABOUT 1 OR 2 DAYS AFTER THE ORDER WAS PLACED)

I bought 100 AAs too, can't remember how much they were, though...

I have been very happy with the service.

Hi,

If your looking to buy Procell MN1604 (9v), if you ask for a price on the bulk pack. The one's that most people supply are in a box of 10 and a outer carton of 50. Procell also supply them in a tray of 200 with the little black caps on the positive ( still trying to find a use for them.) The last one's I bought were from All batteries at a lot less than Stage Electrics or my local electrical wholesaler could supply them for. I think if you are paying more than 80 pence for Procell, you need to go somewhere else....

Hope this helps..
