robertor
I know this may be a little of a long shot, but I am SM on a projection of Wind In The Willows, and we are having a few musical problems. We have a score of the show, but it is orchestrated for multiple wind and brass instruments. We would like a simple piano score for rehearsals, and maybe for the show itself. We have a piano score for the main songs in the musical, but there is allot of incidental music which would be nice to include in the show. I was also wondering if there were any backing tracks or MIDI versions of the songs or score, that we could use for the show. We already are license for the show and royalties for the musical score. I have searched google, with no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.RobertoR
paulears
I'm pretty certain that when I did this show about 9, maybe 10 years ago there was a reduced score for piano available. You may find that if the copyright agent - (is this one Weinbergers? may have other versions, or possibly even the tracks you want. It is getting more common. Other than that, maybe looking at a site like NODA may give you people who have done it, and some may well have midi files? Worth a go. If you have a bit of time, find a school or college where they do AS Music Technology as first year students often spend ages sticking in parts from scores, and then arranging them - maybe they could do it for you in return for something? For those with things like Sibelius and reasonable music keyboard skills, it isn't too much of a problem.
PeterT
Although you have the rights and music, check the small print on the license very carefully. You may find that you are not permitted to use midi files or pre-recorded music for the show itself. Although you'll probably be fineif you do, the License Holders do have the right to turn up and see the show and if they see you're in breach of the contract you could be in a lot of trouble. Please don't think I'm trying to be negative here, I know how hard it is to get musicians involved, especially if you're on a budget. It might be worth speaking to a local secondary school to see if their music department might be able to help you out (if they still have one...) either by supplying musicians to play the score for the show or by pre-recording the piano parts for you. Good luck
