andy_s
well, thanks are due to the ever- hospitable Jeremy at ETC who tooks us through the desk in a very thorough fashion. The very sexy colour-changing trackball is nice and sexy. it appears to have a huge amount of functionality and I liked the logic, although I should say my operating days are long over and really belong to the days of the gemini and galaxy, with recent very occasional playing on expression 3, so I can't really compare it with the 500 series. One thing I liked about it was the tracking logic - attributes track and intensities don't, but I understand this may not be to the taste of 500 series users. to import the strand files, you still have to convert them to ascii using Showport, but this was really quick. My discs were from relatively simple shows - no movers or scrollers, and not a huge number of channels, but everything appeared in the right place, including groups and submasters. We hit a bit of a snag with a more complicated show that did have moving light programming in it, but that seemed to be more to do with a corrupt file header than any problem with the principal of conversion. so all in all an interesting day in North Acton - I'd definitely recommend a viewing at PLASA.
